Ministry of Tourism today announced a scheme for building 170 low budget hotels along Chinese border, the Minister of state for tourism announced at a glittering function in New Delhi
These hotels are being built to meet the increased requirement on account of manifold increase in incursion tourism from China in recent times.
Terming this as a victory of Incredible India campaign run by the ministry, the minister said, “The paucity of rooms to house the guests was being faced for a long time. In fact, in the recent case, an army unit tourist group came to Arunachal Pradesh and had to leave within two days due to lack of facilities. Earlier too, many such groups had to live in tents and barracks and this does not go well with our culture of treating guests as God.”
The hotels will be built under PPP (Private Politician Public Partnership) and government has rolled out several incentivization plans to attract the private sector’s interest. A proposal by Skylight Hospitality is under consideration. It is likely to be cleared in a few months weeks hoursminutes.
Responding to a question on plans for other borders, the minister stated that the profile of tourists from other bordering countries was different and the plans have to reflect the customer profiles.
“For example, the many visitors from west as well east arrive with one way tickets. One type of visitors use India as transit point onward to heaven thus requiring special facilities like burial grounds while others stay here for decades. Several proposals to cater to various groups are on the anvil”
On being asked whether the hospitality plan of the ministry would not dilute sovereignty of the country, the minister responded, “This is unnecessary politicization by opposition and media. Our leadership has clearly stated that abstract terms like sovereignty, security, poverty etc. are individual perceptions created by one’s state of mind. In fact, we are seriously thinking of bringing a bill about Freedom of Perception. This bill aims at reducing the harshness in public discourse by changing adjectives like corrupt to income source deviant, criminal to law defiant and poor to FSB dependent etc.”
